Ole Miss’ Alexander, Carneiro earn SEC weekly honors after Louisville win

Ole Miss wide receiver Deuce Alexander and kicker Lucas Carneiro earned Southeastern Conference weekly awards after the Rebels’ 41-38 season-opening victory over No. 24 Louisville. Alexander was a co-winner of Offensive Player of the Week, while Carneiro shared Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Alexander finished with a career-best 159 yards on five catches and scored two touchdowns. His first touchdown came on a 62-yard catch-and-run up the right sideline, the second-longest reception of his career behind his school-record 88-yard catch last season.

The senior from Douglasville, Georgia, scored again in the third quarter on another 62-yard play, catching a deep pass from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and outrunning the defense to the end zone.

Carneiro supplied the winning points against Louisville with a 48-yard field goal as time expired. He also made a 43-yard field goal in the second quarter and converted all five of his extra-point attempts for 11 points.

The performance gave Carneiro 160 points for his career, moving him to 14th on Ole Miss’ career scoring list. He has made three career game-winning field goals of at least 45 yards within the final 15 seconds of regulation, the most by any Football Bowl Subdivision kicker in the last 30 years.

No. 9 Ole Miss, now 1-0, returns to Oxford for its 2026 home opener against Charlotte, which is 0-1. The game is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, at 6:45 p.m. on ESPN2.
