Mississippi State volleyball heads to Texas for matches against ranked opponents
Mississippi State volleyball will travel to Texas this weekend for matches against No. 8 Texas and No. 14 Texas A&M. The Bulldogs will play Texas at 6:30 p.m. CT Friday, Oct. 2, at Gregory Gymnasium in Austin, then face Texas A&M at noon CT Sunday, Oct. 4, at Reed Arena in College Station. Both matches will stream on SECN+.
Mississippi State enters the trip at 11-1 overall and 1-0 in Southeastern Conference play after extending its winning streak to nine matches with a victory over LSU in the team's SEC home opener.
Lindsey Mangelson led the Bulldogs against LSU with 62 attacks and 23 kills. She was one of three Mississippi State players to record a double-double, along with Bernadita Aguilar and Adriana Jeanpierre. Jeanpierre made her SEC debut and posted a career-high 12 assists and 10 digs for her first career double-double.
Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss hit .750 for the second time this season and recorded a season-high 12 kills against LSU.
Texas is 5-5 overall and 1-1 in SEC play after a three-set loss to No. 3 Kentucky. The Longhorns rank first in the conference in attacks per set at 35.05, while Nya Bunton ranks fourth in SEC hitting percentage at .408.
Texas A&M is 8-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Aggies are the reigning national champions, lead the SEC in team assists with 596 and team kills with 658, and have Eliza Sharp ranked first in the conference in blocks per set at 1.51 and total blocks with 59.
Friday's match will be Mississippi State's first against Texas at Gregory Gymnasium and the Bulldogs' third meeting with the Longhorns. Sunday's match will be the 23rd between Mississippi State and Texas A&M; the Bulldogs won the last meeting in College Station, 3-0.
