Mississippi College volleyball set for road matches at UAH, Montevallo

Mississippi College volleyball will return to Gulf South Conference play with road matches against the University of Alabama in Huntsville and the University of Montevallo. The Choctaws will play UAH at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, in Huntsville, then face Montevallo at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.

MC enters the weekend 6-10 overall and 3-2 in conference play after a five-set victory at Union on Tuesday. UAH is 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the GSC, while Montevallo is 9-4 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Friday's match will be played at SportsMED Arena at Spragins Hall. UAH has won its most recent match, a 3-0 sweep of Montevallo on Sept. 25. The Chargers average 12.87 kills and 11.73 assists per set, hit .226 as a team and average 2.44 blocks per set. Their opponents are hitting .104 against them.

Kayla Ward leads UAH's primary offensive options with 2.60 kills per set while hitting .451. Ella Schumacher averages 2.20 kills per set, and Cooper Garrett contributes 2.27 kills and 5.20 assists per set. Mary Grace Bundrant averages 1.21 blocks per set, while Brooklyn Stiles averages 4.06 digs.

MC averages 11.25 kills per set and hits .144. Holland Williams leads the Choctaws with 2.33 kills per set, followed by Mary Grace Foster at 2.22, Cydney Mitchell at 2.20 and Meg Paparella at 2.09. Foster and Reese Regner have shared setting duties, and MC averages 1.85 blocks per set.

Saturday's match at Montevallo will be played at Central State Bank Arena. The Falcons are coming off a 3-1 victory over Shorter on Sept. 29 and average 12.27 kills, 11.33 assists and 2.02 aces per set while hitting .202. They also average 15.15 digs and 1.37 blocks per set.

Katie Wilkerson leads the Montevallo attack with 4.07 kills per set while hitting .259. Eliza Tyrrell averages 3.27 kills per set and hits .237, while Blakeley Robbins averages 6.73 assists per set. Ellie Scharlow and Lilly Singleton also contribute offensively, and Ava Wind is a key back-row defender.

The schedule gives MC less than 24 hours between first serves as it travels from Huntsville to Montevallo. Both matches will be available through FloCollege with a subscription required for video coverage, while live statistics will be provided through the host institutions' athletics websites.
