Delta State to host Shorter in 12th meeting between programs

Delta State will return to Travis E. Parker Field at Horace McCool Stadium for a nonconference matchup with Shorter. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Central time, with the game marking the 12th meeting between the programs.

The Statesmen are coming off a bye week after defeating Mississippi Valley State 21-6 on Sept. 19 in Itta Bena. Shorter earned its first conference win of the 2026 season last weekend, beating Erskine 31-24 in Due West, South Carolina.

Delta State coach David Dean is entering his first season with the program after being hired as its 20th all-time head coach on Feb. 6, 2026. The game will be Dean’s 179th as a head coach.

Delta State leads the all-time series 10-1 and has won the past 10 meetings. Shorter won the first matchup, 32-21, in 2012. Delta State’s most recent victory was a 56-20 result in 2023, while its largest win in the series came in 2016, when it prevailed 47-7.

Delta State has played at Travis E. Parker Field at Horace McCool Stadium since 1970 and has a 174-98-8 record there. The Statesmen’s overall home record is 290-149-15 across the program’s 95-year history.
