Delta State men’s golf in third after first day of Sam Dunning Invitational

Delta State University’s men’s golf team finished the first day of the Sam Dunning Invitational in third place after shooting 568, or 8 under par, through 36 holes at Mossy Oak Golf Course in West Point. The Statesmen recorded 33 team birdies over the two rounds.

Gonzalo De Minon, Linus Utter and Evans Haynie each ranked among the top 15 individually. De Minon was tied for seventh at 3 under par after rounds of 71 and 70.

Utter held sole possession of 11th place at 1 under par, following an even-par 72 in the first round with a 71 in the second. Haynie shot 72 in both rounds to finish at 144.

Niko Salmi had the lowest round of the day for the Statesmen, opening with a 68, or 4 under par. He was tied for 29th after two rounds at 3 over par.

Delta State was scheduled to return for the third and final round the following morning at 8:30 a.m.
