Alcorn State women’s soccer defeats Jacksonville State 4-1 before Troy trip

Alcorn State’s women’s soccer team defeated Jacksonville State 4-1 Thursday afternoon, improving its record to 3-3. Grace Ambrose scored twice within the first seven minutes, giving the Lady Braves an early 2-0 advantage. Elive Larissa Joso Luma and Leyla Llanos Boursiquot also scored in the victory.

Alcorn State was scheduled to face Troy at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Troy Soccer Complex in Troy, Alabama. Troy leads the series 3-0, and the last meeting between the teams ended with a 3-1 Troy victory in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Michelle Lesmes Diaz scored Alcorn’s goal in that match in the 27th minute, assisted by Iesha Rollins.

Ambrose was named Southwestern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the period of September 8-14, while Sophia Bobie received the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week honor for the same period.

Troy entered the matchup with a 1-5-1 record, including a 1-1-1 mark at home. Alaina Uncapher had two goals and an assist, Madisyn Marchesi had two goals and one game-winning goal, Brooke Slater led the team with three assists, and goalkeeper Taylor Richards had 33 saves with a .688 save percentage.
