Reeves honors new Mississippi Air National Guard commander

Gov. Tate Reeves congratulated Brig. Gen. Tommy Tillman as the new commander of the Mississippi Air National Guard and thanked Maj. Gen. Ed Evans for his years of service, saying Evans will enjoy a happy retirement, Reeves said in a Facebook post.

Reeves said he knows Tillman “will lead with the steadiness, strength, and commitment that have defined his career.” The governor’s message posted on social media offered official recognition of the leadership transition within the state’s air component.

The Mississippi Air National Guard is the state’s air militia and a reserve component of the U.S. Air Force. Units of the Air National Guard typically perform both federal missions for national defense and state missions such as disaster response, emergency support and homeland security operations.

Leadership changes in the Air National Guard can affect state readiness and coordination with federal authorities. Reeves’ public remarks signal continuity of support from state government for the guard’s missions. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
