13 Mississippi rivers, creeks in flood stages; levels forecast to fall

Thirteen rivers and creeks across Mississippi are in flood stages ranging from major to minor, according to a Facebook post that provided the latest update.

Six were listed at major flood stage: West Hobolochitto Creek near McNeill; Biloxi River near Wortham; Jourdan River at Kiln; Wolf River near Landon; Wolf River near Gulfport; and Biloxi River near Lyman. Two were listed at moderate flood stage: East Hobolochitto Creek near Caesar and Leaf River near McLain. Five were listed at minor flood stage: Black Creek near Brooklyn; Chickasawhay River at Leakesville; Pascagoula River at Merrill; Tchoutacabouffa River near D’Iberville; and Pearl River near Bogalusa.

The post said all of the affected rivers and creeks were forecast to drop significantly over the next 12 to 24 hours. Residents in impacted areas were urged to stay weather aware and follow local safety guidance.

Flooding can create hazardous conditions such as road closures and property damage; officials generally advise avoiding floodwaters and heeding emergency alerts. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
