Reeves highlights waterways’ role at Tenn-Tom conference
Gov. Tate Reeves said in a Facebook post that Mississippi’s waterways are helping drive the state’s “record-breaking economic development success” and strengthening its logistical advantage. Reeves said he enjoyed highlighting “the special things happening in our state” at the 44th Annual Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway Conference.
The Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, commonly called the Tenn-Tom, is an inland navigation system that links the Tennessee and Tombigbee rivers and provides a shipping route to the Gulf of Mexico. State officials and business leaders have long promoted the waterway as a tool to move bulk goods, support ports and lower transportation costs for industry.
Reeves’ message underscores efforts by Mississippi leaders to tout infrastructure and transportation assets when courting new investment and supporting existing employers. Waterways can affect supply chains for agriculture, manufacturing and energy, and governors often use industry gatherings such as the Tenn-Tom conference to make the case for state economic strategies.
