Facebook post promotes Trump Account offering $1,000 for children
A Facebook post encourages parents to open a so-called “Trump Account,” saying children born Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2028, will receive $1,000 from the government and that accounts are free to open for all U.S. children under 18 with a Social Security number.
The post, which links to TRUMPACCOUNTS.GOV, also says that families who “max out contributions” could see an account balance of $271,000 by a child’s 18th birthday. The post used promotional language urging parents to “start investing in your child’s future” and to “invest in a Trump Account today.”
Child savings and college savings accounts, such as 529 plans and other long-term savings vehicles, are designed to encourage early saving for education and other expenses. Advocates say early and consistent contributions can make higher education and other postsecondary opportunities more affordable for families over time.
The claims in the Facebook post reflect the promotion and projected figures shown on that social media message. These assertions have not been independently verified by this outlet. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
