Police Memorial Day on Monday brings Police Week to a close, a culmination of events and remembrances honoring law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty and recognizing the sacrifices made by officers and their families.
In a social media post, a police department said the outpouring of kindness and generosity shown to its staff during the week “means more than words can express” and called serving the community an honor. The department did not provide additional details in the post.
Police Week is observed in many communities with memorial ceremonies, public events and outreach intended to remember fallen officers and strengthen ties between law enforcement and the public. Agencies often use the week to highlight officer wellness, community policing efforts and support for survivors of line-of-duty deaths.
