National Weather Service issues severe thunderstorm watch for parts of Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas

The National Weather Service issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch 606 in effect until 10 p.m. CDT this evening for parts of Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi, the agency said.

The watch includes two counties in southeast Arkansas: Ashley and Chicot. In Louisiana it covers five parishes in the northeast part of the state: East Carroll, Madison, Morehouse, Richland and West Carroll, the service said.

In Mississippi the watch covers 28 counties across several regions: central Mississippi (Attala, Choctaw, Hinds, Holmes, Humphreys, Leake, Madison, Rankin, Scott, Yazoo); east central Mississippi (Kemper, Neshoba, Noxubee, Winston); north central Mississippi (Carroll, Grenada, Leflore, Montgomery, Webster); northeast Mississippi (Clay, Lowndes, Oktibbeha); northwest Mississippi (Bolivar, Sunflower, Washington); and west central Mississippi (Issaquena, Sharkey, Warren), the National Weather Service said.

The watch includes a number of cities across the three states, including Ackerman, Anguilla, Bastrop, Belzoni, Brandon, Brooksville, Canton, Carrollton, Carthage, Cleveland, Columbus, Crossett, De Kalb, Delhi, Dermott, Durant, Epps, Eudora, Eupora, Forest, Goodman, Greenville, Greenwood, Grenada, Hamburg, Indianola, Isola, Jackson, Kosciusko, Lake Providence, Lake Village, Lexington, Louisville, Macon, Madison, Mathiston, Mayersville, Morton, North Carrollton, North Crossett, Oak Grove, Pearl, Pearl River, Philadelphia, Pickens, Rayville, Richland, Ridgeland, Rolling Fork, Ruleville, Scooba, Starkville, Tallulah, Tchula, Vaiden, Vicksburg, Weir, West Crossett, West Point, Winona and Yazoo City.

A severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that can produce damaging winds and large hail. The National Weather Service advises people in the watch area to monitor local forecasts, have a plan to seek shelter, and be prepared to take action if a warning is issued.
