National Weather Service extends enhanced severe weather risk

The National Weather Service said it has extended an enhanced risk for severe weather farther south and east, and urged residents to continue following their local meteorologist for the latest forecast information.

The agency issues convective outlooks and watches to highlight areas most likely to experience severe thunderstorms. An “enhanced” designation signals an increased probability of organized severe storms, which can include damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes.

Residents in the affected regions should monitor updates from local TV and radio stations, weather apps and the National Weather Service for watches and warnings. Officials generally advise people to review emergency plans, secure outdoor objects, prepare a weather-safe area in their homes and have a battery-powered radio and emergency supplies on hand.
