National Weather Service expands slight severe-storm risk in Mississippi
The National Weather Service expanded a slight risk for severe storms for parts of Mississippi on June 1, 2026, saying late-afternoon into overnight storms could produce damaging winds and hail.
The agency posted the update on its social media page, urging residents to stay weather aware. A slight risk is one category in the NWS convective outlook that indicates the potential for scattered severe storms, the agency said.
Severe storms capable of producing damaging winds and hail can cause property damage, downed trees and power outages, and can create hazardous travel conditions. The NWS and local emergency officials typically advise people in the risk area to monitor forecasts, charge mobile devices, secure outdoor items and have a plan to move to a safe location if conditions deteriorate.
The National Weather Service is the federal agency responsible for weather forecasts and warnings aimed at protecting life and property. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
