Mississippi Emergency Management Agency urges residents to stay weather aware
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency posted on its Facebook page urging residents to “Stay weather aware, Mississippi!” The short message called attention to the need for vigilance as the state enters periods of potentially hazardous weather.
MEMA, the state agency responsible for coordinating disaster preparedness, response and recovery, routinely issues advisories and works with local governments, the National Weather Service and federal partners to monitor threats and relay life-saving information.
Mississippi is vulnerable to severe weather year-round, including tornadoes, heavy rainfall, flooding and tropical systems. Staying weather aware can give residents time to seek shelter and protect property. Officials generally recommend that people monitor local forecasts and alerts, have a plan for where to go in a storm and maintain an emergency kit with essentials.
Details about any specific weather threat were not included in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
