Staying weather aware can help people respond quickly if severe conditions develop. Weather hazards such as strong thunderstorms, heavy rain, flooding and high winds can arise with little notice, and officials commonly advise the public to monitor forecasts and alerts.
Experts recommend several simple steps to stay informed: check forecasts from the National Weather Service or other trusted meteorological sources, enable smartphone emergency alerts, follow local emergency management accounts on social media and keep a battery-powered radio available. People should also review family emergency plans and assemble basic supplies such as water, medications and flashlights.
