MDPS, officials honor fallen officers at 16th annual candlelight vigil
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety said its teams took part in the 16th Annual Fallen Officer Candlelight Vigil alongside Attorney General Lynn Fitch, the Chiefs of Police Association and the Sheriffs’ Association to honor law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.
The department posted on its official Facebook page that members were “honored to take part” in the vigil and reaffirmed support for “brothers and sisters in blue” and the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to communities across the state.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is the state agency responsible for a range of public safety and law enforcement functions, including highway patrol and criminal investigations, and often participates in ceremonies that recognize the risks faced by officers and first responders.
The annual candlelight vigil provides a public occasion to remember fallen officers, offer support to surviving family members and highlight the role of local and state agencies in community safety. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
