MDPS recognizes officers at Top Cop event

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety said earlier this week that officers from multiple state agencies were recognized at the Top Cop event for going “above and beyond the call of duty.”

The department named personnel from several of its divisions: Cameron Shaffer with the Mississippi Highway Patrol; Russ Gordon and Norman Harris with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation; Matthew Cassada and Ethan Harrell with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics; and Marcellous Charleston, Robert Alexander and Tomekia Bowling with Capitol Police, the agency said in a Facebook post.

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety, which oversees state law enforcement divisions including the Highway Patrol, Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Narcotics and Capitol Police, said the recognitions underscore officers’ commitment to public safety.

In the post, the department thanked the named personnel for “representing the Mississippi Department of Public Safety with honor and professionalism.” Recognition programs such as Top Cop are used by law enforcement agencies to highlight exceptional service and boost public trust.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
