A Facebook post honored Sgt. Steve Morgan and Det. James Northcutt on the anniversary of their deaths, saying both officers “gave everything in their service to protect and serve.” The post noted their ultimate sacrifice occurred on May 6, 1998, 28 years ago.
The tribute said the Morgan and Northcutt families remain in the community’s thoughts and prayers and called the two men “true heroes” whose legacies live on in every life they touched and in officers who continue to serve in their honor, according to the post.
The post used hashtags including #EOW, #AlwaysRemembered and #FallenButNotForgotten. EOW commonly stands for “End of Watch,” a phrase used by law enforcement and communities to mark the date an officer dies in the line of duty. Anniversaries and public tributes are part of longstanding traditions that recognize the risks of police work and the impact of a line-of-duty death on families and fellow officers.
