Mississippi honors U.S. Coast Guard on 236th birthday
A Facebook post wishing the U.S. Coast Guard a “Happy 236th Birthday” said Mississippi is grateful for the service and sacrifices members make to keep the nation safe, adding the service motto “Semper Paratus!”
The post, which addressed the Coast Guard directly, reflects a broader tradition of public recognition for the branch’s work along the nation’s waterways and coasts. The Coast Guard traces its origins to the Revenue Cutter Service, established in 1790, and is responsible for maritime safety, security, search and rescue, environmental protection and law enforcement.
