Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office remembers 72 officers killed on Sept. 11

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office is remembering the 72 law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty on Sept. 11, 2001, describing it as the single greatest loss of law enforcement life in American history in a single day.

The office said the officers ran into buildings others were fleeing and answered the call knowing the risk. On the 25th anniversary, it said, their courage and sacrifice are being remembered.
