East Mississippi Correctional Facility holds first Family Day under new warden

The East Mississippi Correctional Facility held its first Family Day under Warden Mike Dixon, bringing family members of inmates who provide camp support to the facility for a day of music, fellowship, games and other activities. The facility houses more than 1,000 state inmates.

Local community churches provided lunch and helped with the festivities, Dixon said. The Central Mississippi Correctional Facility’s band provided music and helped create a welcoming atmosphere at the event on Sept. 25, 2026.

Dixon said the event supported the reentry process by giving inmates an opportunity to strengthen relationships with loved ones and reconnect with family members as they prepare to return home.
