Worship service at Delta Correctional Facility highlights faith and rehabilitation
A worship service at Delta Correctional Facility highlighted the role of faith services in rehabilitation and community-building, bringing inmates and visitors together in a shared celebration, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Among the service’s highlights was a Praise Dance performance by women at the facility. Program Director Rochelle Gunn-Nelson said, “Their dance was not just a performance but a testament to the strength and hope that faith brings to individuals, even in the most challenging circumstances”.
Scripture readings provided encouragement and reflection, while musical performances by Delta State of Mind and Anointed Voices contributed to the service’s atmosphere of worship.
Erin Aycock, a former inmate, shared a testimony about how her faith changed her life while she was serving her sentence. Gunn-Hudson said Aycock’s testimony resonated deeply with those present.
The service concluded with an Altar Call open to all attendees. The moment provided an opportunity for personal reflection and prayer, underscoring the role of spiritual services in offering comfort, redemption and transformation in correctional settings, according to Gunn-Hudson.
