Woman dies after house fire in Rankin County

A woman died Thursday morning after a house fire at 170 Bain Road in Puckett, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies received a 911 call about 7:50 a.m. reporting a structure fire and saying a female victim was still inside, the sheriff’s office said. Fire crews from the Puckett, Cato and Walters fire departments responded along with Rankin County deputies, the Rankin County Emergency Operations Center and Pafford Ambulance.

First responders extinguished the fire and found an unresponsive woman in a bedroom, the sheriff’s office said. Despite lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rankin County Coroner David Ruth responded and took custody of the body. Authorities said the victim’s name will be released after family members are notified and offered their prayers to the family and to the first responders who attended the scene.

Rankin County Sheriff’s Office fire investigators and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the blaze. The State Fire Marshal’s Office typically assists local agencies in determining origin and cause of fires. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
