Woman charged with arson after Jackson self-storage fire

JACKSON — A woman was arrested after a fire Tuesday afternoon at Jackson Self Storage at 3280 U.S. 80, Jackson Fire Department Chief Charles Felton said.

Firefighters were dispatched at 1:59 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, for a reported structure fire and worked to extinguish the blaze, Felton said.

Felton said Miesha Nelson was arrested in connection with the fire. He said Nelson confessed to setting the fire and will be charged with two counts of felony arson. Nelson appeared in court and received a $25,000 unsecured bond covering both charges, Felton said.

Self-storage facilities typically hold household and business goods for customers, and fires at such sites can destroy property and disrupt access for tenants. No additional information was immediately available, and the fire remains under investigation, Felton said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
