Lee County deputy wins sheriff’s office physical fitness challenge

Deputy Lovvorn was the overall winner of this year’s Lee County Sheriff’s Office Physical Fitness Challenge, Sheriff Jim H. Johnson said in a Facebook post from the Mississippi department.

The annual program assesses participants’ ability to perform essential law enforcement duties. The challenge this year included running, push-ups and sit-ups, the sheriff’s office said.

Johnson encouraged employees to commit to regular exercise and highlighted the role of fitness in officer safety and job performance. “Maintaining a high level of physical fitness is not optional—it is an essential part of being prepared to serve effectively and responsibly,” Johnson wrote.

The sheriff also recognized the shift or division with the best combined time, naming Sgt. Chism, Cpl. Pounders, Deputy O’Neal and Deputy Magee. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
