Vicksburg man convicted in 2024 homicide

VICKSBURG, Miss. — A Warren County jury has found Bernard Brown guilty in the 2024 killing of Shandrick Montgomery, the Vicksburg Police Department said in a June 30, 2026, release posted to its Facebook page.

Police said officers responded about 11:14 p.m. on May 28, 2024, to the 400 block of Locust Street after receiving a report of a shooting. Investigators located Montgomery lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound to the chest; he was pronounced dead at the scene, the department said.

The department said its Criminal Investigations Division conducted an extensive investigation that led a Warren County grand jury to indict Bernard Brown on charges of murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon in connection with Montgomery’s death. Brown’s trial began earlier this week and concluded with a guilty verdict, the department said.

The Vicksburg Police Department said it remains committed to pursuing justice for victims and their families through thorough investigations and partnerships with local prosecutors. The department did not provide details about sentencing. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
