Tornado Watch lifted, community safe room closes
An update at 5:15 a.m. said the Tornado Watch has been lifted and the Community Safe Room at 7312 Highway 51 is closing, according to a Facebook post.
The post said the Tornado Watch had been issued Monday, April 27, 2026, at 9:50 p.m. and was in effect until 5 a.m. CDT. The post earlier said the safe room had been opened and was available to all citizens for the duration of the watch.
A Tornado Watch indicates that weather conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop; it is different from a Tornado Warning, which means a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar and immediate shelter is necessary. Community safe rooms provide a designated, reinforced location for residents who lack adequate shelter at home.
Officials urged residents to continue monitoring local forecasts and be prepared to take immediate shelter if a Tornado Warning is issued. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
