Clarksdale Rotary delivers purple pinkie donuts to sheriff’s office to support polio eradication
The Clarksdale Rotary Club stopped by the sheriff’s office with purple “pinkie” donuts to show support for efforts to eradicate polio, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
The sheriff’s office thanked the club for the donation and noted that each box helps raise enough funds to vaccinate 60 children against polio. The purple mark on a child’s finger — often called a pinkie — is widely used in vaccination campaigns to indicate a received dose.
Rotary clubs are local chapters of Rotary International, a global service organization that has played a prominent role in fundraising and advocacy for polio eradication for decades. Local clubs commonly hold fundraisers and awareness events to support immunization campaigns and public-health initiatives.
The visit underscores community partnerships between civic groups and law enforcement in promoting public health. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
