Starkville police direct post-fireworks traffic, restrict parking
Starkville Police Department said in a Facebook post that officers will direct traffic after a Parks and Recreation Department fireworks show that begins at 6:00 p.m. and concludes with a fireworks display at 9:00 p.m.
Officers will be positioned at Highway 25 at Cornerstone Park and Highway 12 at Bluefield Road to manage traffic flow, the post said. The intersection at Highway 25 will be right-turn only; drivers who need to travel in the opposite direction are advised to use designated medians to make U-turns safely. Traffic lanes in the area will be coned and channeled.
Parking on Bluefield Road will be limited to the east side only, the department said, and shoulder parking on Highway 25 and Highway 12 is prohibited. The post warned that shoulder parking creates dangerous conditions for pedestrians, drivers and emergency vehicles and asked attendees to avoid blocking traffic lanes or driveways.
The department asked motorists to follow officer instructions and thanked the public for their patience. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
