Starkville police arrest woman on second auto burglary charge

Starkville Police Department arrested Jakeshea Cousins, 33, of Maben on June 7, 2026, and charged her with auto burglary following an incident at Starkville Sportsplex, 405 Lynn Lane, the department said.

Cousins was previously arrested on May 5 for an auto burglary that occurred May 4 at Cornerstone Park, 222 Batters Boulevard, the department said. Sunday’s arrest is her second auto burglary arrest in Starkville in just over one month.

The department said that in both incidents Cousins brought a young child to the parks to provide a reason for being in the area before burglarizing vehicles. It also said she faces multiple auto burglary charges in Webster County for incidents that occurred in February 2026.

The Starkville Police Department thanked a citizen who reported suspicious activity and urged residents to lock vehicle doors and remove valuables from plain sight, noting most auto burglaries are crimes of opportunity. Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 662-323-4131, Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151, or submit an anonymous tip through the department website. Crime Stoppers may offer a cash reward. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
