Scott County deputies, MBN seize drugs, guns, vehicles in searches

Two men were charged after law enforcement executed search warrants May 27 at homes in Forest and Lake, Scott County officials said.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics executed a warrant at 1213 E. Oak St. in Forest, authorities said. During that search they seized about 28 grams of methamphetamine, narcotics distribution scales, multiple firearms, two vehicles and currency believed to be proceeds of illegal drug sales.

A separate search on Thornton Street in Lake involved the sheriff’s narcotics task force, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Lake Police Department, officials said. That search turned up about 5 grams of methamphetamine, 0.5 grams of crack cocaine and other items commonly used in the distribution of illegal narcotics.

Officials identified the subjects as Alvester Tucker and Rodney Mitchell. Tucker was charged with possession of methamphetamine. Mitchell was charged with possession of methamphetamine, sale of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a felon, authorities said.

The searches were the result of a joint investigation by the local task force and the state bureau. The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics is the state agency that enforces drug laws, and local narcotics task forces often work with municipal police on such probes. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
