Hinds County deputies seize firearm with conversion device, arrest suspect

Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said deputies recovered a firearm equipped with a machine gun conversion device during a traffic stop and arrested the individual on multiple charges, the agency said in a Facebook post.

The sheriff’s office said it remains firmly committed to combating gun violence and is prioritizing investigations into conversion kits, commonly called “switches.” The agency said those devices illegally convert firearms into fully automatic weapons, dramatically increasing their lethality and posing a serious risk to the public and law enforcement.

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said possession and use of conversion devices will be aggressively targeted and that individuals found with them will be held accountable under applicable state and federal laws. The agency said there is zero tolerance for such devices in Hinds County.

The sheriff’s office described the traffic-stop recovery and arrest as an example of ongoing efforts to remove illegal weapons from county streets and protect residents. The agency said deputies and investigative teams continue to work daily to ensure people who endanger the community face consequences.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
