Rankin County Animal Shelter waives adoption fees for weekend event

BRANDON, Miss. — Rankin County Animal Shelter will hold a fee-waived adoption event Saturday as it works to find homes for more than 100 dogs, shelter officials said.

The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the shelter at 710 Marquette Road in Brandon, officials said. Adoption fees will be waived during the event, meaning people can adopt at no cost.

Shelter officials said adoptions will still include spay or neuter services, vaccinations, a microchip, and a collar and leash. Those services are commonly provided by animal shelters to help ensure new pets enter homes with basic veterinary care and identification.

Rankin County Animal Shelter cares for stray, surrendered and rescued animals and works with residents and rescue partners to place animals in permanent homes. Fee-waived adoption events are intended to remove financial barriers and encourage more people to adopt, officials said.

The shelter is encouraging residents to stop by and consider adopting. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
