Rankin County Animal Shelter receives Best Friends award
Rankin County Animal Shelter received an award from Best Friends Animal Society for rescuing and rehoming more than 90% of the dogs and cats it took in, the shelter said in a social media post.
Best Friends Animal Society is a nonprofit that operates the nation’s largest sanctuary for homeless animals and provides adoption, spay/neuter and educational programs in partnership with local agencies, the organization says.
The award highlights the shelter’s efforts to place animals in new homes and reduce the number of animals left in care. A rehoming rate above 90% is widely viewed in the animal welfare field as a strong outcome that reflects effective intake, medical care and adoption work.
