Police arrest two in multi-state jewelry burglary
Oxford police said Tuesday that officers responded May 16 to a residence on St. Andrews Road in Oxford after a burglary in which more than $140,000 in jewelry was stolen.
Investigators located a point of entry, recovered footprints and a partial fingerprint inside the home and obtained surveillance video showing multiple individuals entering a vehicle neighbors described as suspicious, the Oxford Police Department said in a Facebook post.
Using traffic cameras and tag readers, investigators tracked the vehicle as it left town with a different license plate. The search expanded to Alabama after officers learned of similar burglaries, and the vehicle was later spotted in Arkansas, Missouri and Illinois. Missouri authorities stopped the car after guidance from Oxford investigators, and two suspects were taken into custody following a foot pursuit, the department said.
Fabian Ignactio Navarro-Aliaga, 27, and Marcelo Alejandro Telechea-Droguett, 36, both of Chile, were arrested and charged with burglary — forced entry by the Oxford Police Department. The department said federal charges were also filed and immigration detainers were placed on both men. Jewelry, firearms and other recovered items are being identified by owners. The department thanked the Missouri Highway Patrol, Chicago Police Department and Department of Homeland Security for assistance. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
