Oxford police attend ARIDE training to detect impaired driving

OXFORD, Miss. — Some Oxford Police Department officers are sharpening their skills this week by participating in ARIDE training hosted by Mississippi TIDE, the department said in a Facebook post.

ARIDE, or Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement, is a specialized course that teaches officers techniques to identify signs of drug and alcohol impairment. The Oxford Police Department said the training equips officers with advanced methods to help keep roads and the community safer.

The Oxford Police Department, which provides law enforcement services for the city of Oxford, posted that “training never stops at OPD” and that “at OPD, the classroom never closes.” The department said it views investment in officers’ education as an investment in community safety.

Impaired-driving training is part of broader efforts by police agencies to reduce traffic crashes and improve public safety. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
