Officers teach driving safety at Brown Christian Academy
Officer Holliday and Lieutenant Harris spoke with young men in the David and Jonathan Leadership program at Brown Christian Academy about safe driving and passenger safety, the Southaven Police Department said in a Facebook post. Students took part in a demonstration that let them drive a golf cart through an obstacle course while wearing fatal vision goggles to simulate the effects of impairment.
The department said the exercise was designed to show how impairment can affect judgment and motor skills behind the wheel. The post added, “We enjoyed spending time with these future leaders.”
Southaven Police Department, which serves Southaven in DeSoto County, Mississippi, regularly conducts community outreach and education aimed at reducing crashes and improving public safety. Brown Christian Academy is a private Christian school; the David and Jonathan Leadership program focuses on developing leadership skills among its male students.
Officials say hands-on demonstrations are one method used by law enforcement and schools to reinforce messages about responsible driving and passenger behavior. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
