NWS issues elevated flash flood risk for parts of Mississippi
The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued an elevated risk for flash flooding in parts of Mississippi on Sunday, May 24, 2026, and Monday, May 25, 2026, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said in a Facebook post.
The agency urged residents to stay weather aware, know where to go if they need to evacuate, identify alternate routes in case of flooded roads and follow Turn Around, Dont Drown guidance. The post said the Mississippi Department of Transportation will keep the public informed on road conditions.
The National Weather Service issues watches and warnings for hazardous weather, including heavy rainfall that can produce rapid-onset flash floods. Flash flooding can develop quickly and pose particular hazards to motorists and people in low-lying areas, emergency officials say.
Officials advise people in affected areas to monitor local forecasts, avoid driving through flooded roadways and review family emergency plans. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
