Mississippi officials host 16th annual Fallen Officers candlelight vigil in Jackson
JACKSON — Attorney General Lynn Fitch, the Mississippi Sheriffs’ Association and the Mississippi Association of Chiefs of Police will host the 16th annual Fallen Officers Candlelight Vigil at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the Mississippi Fallen Officers Memorial in Jackson, organizers said.
The memorial sits between the Mississippi Supreme Court and the Walter Sillers Building near High Street. Officials said the ceremony is being held in observance of National Police Week and honors Mississippi law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Scheduled speakers include Attorney General Lynn Fitch; Sean Tindell, commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety; William “Billy” Seal of the Long Beach Police Department; and Randy Tucker of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, organizers said.
The candlelight vigil, now in its 16th year, draws law enforcement members, families and community members to recognize service and sacrifice. The event is part of broader National Police Week observances to pay tribute to officers killed in the line of duty.
