Moss Point police chief updates staffing six months after swearing in
Dennis Stevenson has served as chief of police in Moss Point for a little over six months, a Facebook post said Friday. Stevenson, a Mississippi Highway Patrol retiree, was sworn in after a mass exodus at the department, the post said.
The update marks an early stage in efforts to stabilize staffing and operations at the Moss Point Police Department. City police departments recovering from large departures typically face challenges such as recruiting replacements, maintaining patrol coverage and restoring public confidence.
Moss Point is a city in Jackson County on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. The police department is responsible for routine patrols, investigations and community policing in the city. Stevenson’s background with the Mississippi Highway Patrol brings state law enforcement experience to the local agency.
