Mississippi warns drivers about license scam
A Facebook post warned Mississippi drivers that text messages claiming the Driver Service Bureau will suspend licenses, cancel vehicle registrations or demand immediate payment are scams.
The post said the Driver Service Bureau, referred to as DSB, will not text people with threats of suspension or ask recipients to click random links to pay fees. It advised recipients: “Don’t click the link. Don’t reply. Delete the message.”
The Driver Service Bureau handles driver licensing and vehicle registration functions for the state, and scammers often exploit those services by sending urgent-looking messages to prompt quick payments or to capture personal information.
Officials and consumer protection groups commonly advise residents to avoid responding to unexpected texts, to verify any notices by contacting agencies through official websites or known phone numbers, and to report suspicious messages to local law enforcement. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
