Mississippi opens statewide applications for private land alligator tags for 2026 season
JACKSON — Mississippi landowners can apply now for private land alligator tags for the 2026 season, the state said. Applications are being accepted online from May 1 through July 1, and there is no fee to apply, according to the state’s private lands and permits information.
Officials said anyone may submit an application for a property located in counties open to alligator harvest as long as the landowner signs the application. Only one application may be submitted for each property, the state said.
The 2026 alligator season opens on the last Friday in August, which falls on Aug. 28, with the private lands season running from noon Aug. 28 until 6 a.m. Sept. 21, the state said.
The private lands alligator tag program will be available statewide beginning in 2026, officials said. Alligator hunting and tag programs are regulated by state authorities to manage populations, protect public safety and provide controlled harvest opportunities for landowners and hunters.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
