Mississippi faces intense rainfall, life-threatening flooding risk
An advisory posted online warns that portions of Mississippi should prepare for periods of intense rainfall over the next several days that could produce widespread and life-threatening flash, urban and river flooding.
The advisory also cautioned that gusty winds and coastal flooding are possible along portions of the northwestern Gulf Coast, and that Tropical Storm Watches or Warnings could be required on Tuesday. It urged residents to stay weather aware and take steps to remain safe.
Flash flooding can develop rapidly in heavy rain, inundating roadways and communities with little warning and creating dangerous conditions for motorists and residents. Urban and river flooding can persist after heavy storms, affecting homes, businesses and infrastructure.
Officials often advise people in threatened areas to review emergency plans, secure property, avoid driving through flooded roads and monitor local forecasts and warnings. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
