Mississippi DPS congratulates new permit holder, urges safe driving

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety posted on Facebook Monday to wish a driver named Meredith a happy birthday and to congratulate her on receiving her driving permit, while urging motorists to not speed, buckle up and drive safely.

The agency, which promotes highway safety and oversees driver services in the state, frequently uses social media to remind new and experienced drivers about basic safety practices.

Reminders to obey speed limits and always wear seat belts are common components of traffic safety outreach because officials say such measures help reduce injuries on the road. Novice drivers are often targeted by public information campaigns as they gain experience behind the wheel.

The Facebook post included the hashtags #Mississippi and #drivesafe and did not provide additional details. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
