Jackson police search for man in fraudulent vehicle title scheme

Jackson police are searching for a man they say conspired to fraudulently transfer ownership of a vehicle using forged documents.

The Jackson Police Department identified the suspect as Adarius Bounds and said he is wanted on a conspiracy charge connected to an alleged scheme involving a fraudulent power of attorney. Investigators allege Bounds conspired with his sister, Yamonique Bounds, who has been arrested, to obtain a forged power of attorney so they could transfer a vehicle title to him.

Police said the forged document, which investigators allege included the vehicle owner’s forged signature, was presented to the Mississippi Department of Revenue to obtain a new title. After the title was issued, police said Bounds sold the vehicle to another person.

Power of attorney documents allow one person to act on another’s behalf and can be used legitimately in transactions such as vehicle title transfers; however, authorities say forged documents are sometimes used to commit title fraud by obtaining a title without the owner’s consent. Anyone with information about Bounds’ whereabouts is asked to contact Jackson police at 601-960-1800 or Crime Stoppers of Central Mississippi at 601-355-TIPS.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
