Tupelo man faces charges after fraudulent checks at two banks

TUPELO, Miss. — A Tupelo man was charged after police said he was connected to fraudulent check reports at two BNA Bank locations earlier this week.

According to the Tupelo Police Department, officers responded May 19 to BNA Bank at 2919 Tom Watson Drive after employees reported that a suspect had cashed a check that was later determined to be fraudulent. A short time later, officers went to another BNA Bank at 3041 McCullough Blvd. after employees reported a suspect attempted to cash a fraudulent check and left the scene.

Police said employees at the second location provided a description that matched the earlier report. Patrol officers later that day located a person matching the description and arrested the individual on unrelated misdemeanor charges.

After further investigation, 44-year-old Samuel T. Dickson of Tupelo was charged May 21 with two counts of false pretense, the department said. Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Weir ordered Dickson held on a $10,000 bond. Authorities said the charges will be presented to the Lee County grand jury.

False pretense generally alleges obtaining money or property by deception. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
