Police arrest suspect after attempt to cash fraudulent check at Tupelo bank
TUPELO, Mississippi — Police arrested a suspect May 20 after officers said someone attempted to cash a fraudulent check at a Tupelo bank, the Tupelo Police Department said.
Officers responded to BNA Bank at 3041 McCullough Blvd. in reference to a false pretense report, the department said. Bank employees told officers a person had attempted to cash a fraudulent check and then left the business. Officers located the suspect nearby and took the person into custody, according to the police report.
Check fraud and other false-pretense schemes are common targets of local law enforcement and bank security. Banks typically notify police when they suspect forged or altered financial instruments, and investigators work with prosecutors to determine whether to file criminal charges. The case underscores ongoing concerns about financial fraud and the role of quick reporting by bank staff in enabling arrests.
The report did not include the suspect’s identity or specify any charges. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
