Jackson police chief joins youth violence prevention meeting

Councilman Kenneth Stokes convened a community meeting at City Hall’s Council Chambers focused on youth violence prevention, the Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Jackson Police Chief Brackney was invited to speak and shared aspects of her life story about growing up amid violence and poverty, the department said. Her remarks underscored why she advocates for collaborative partnerships and pathways that provide alternatives to youth violence.

During the meeting, Chief Brackney engaged with a group of young people from The Youth Outreach Company, a local youth organization, which is seeking support for its Summer Enrichment Program and planned Road Trip, the department said. City-led and community programs such as these are commonly used to provide structured activities and mentoring that can reduce youths’ exposure to violence.

The Jackson Police Department is the city’s primary law enforcement agency and frequently posts updates about community outreach on its social media channels. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
