Heavy rain closes multiple Ocean Springs roads

Heavy rainfall and localized flooding have closed several roadways in Ocean Springs, the Ocean Springs Police Department said in a Facebook post.

The department listed the following closures: the south end of Halstead Road; Inner Harbor; Kensington Drive; Calhoun by the Little Children’s Park; and Cleveland Avenue, where a downed power line has been reported.

Officials urged motorists to use extreme caution, particularly when traveling through low-lying and flood-prone areas. The department warned drivers never to attempt to drive through flooded roadways because water depth and roadway conditions beneath the surface may not be visible, and reminded motorists of the safety message: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”

Drivers were advised to slow down during rainy conditions, allow extra travel time and avoid unnecessary trips. The Ocean Springs Police Department said additional roads may become impassable with little warning as conditions change.

The police department will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed. This is a developing situation and will be updated as more details emerge.
